The Only Strategist In The Entire Opposition That I Know Is Nasir El-Rufai - Shield Reveals

In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, on Friday, July 3, 2026, Henry Shield, a political activist, assessed the state of Nigeria's opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

He argued that opposition parties needed stronger coordination and more effective leadership if they hoped to present a formidable challenge in the next presidential election.

Shield expressed concern over what he described as the absence of a clear strategic direction among opposition leaders. He maintained that electoral success would depend on careful planning, grassroots mobilization, and the ability to sustain political engagement beyond media appearances.

Speaking during the interview, Shield stated, "The only strategist in the entire opposition that I know is Nasir El-Rufai."

He made the remark while discussing the qualities he believes are necessary for opposition politicians seeking to build a competitive political movement ahead of 2027.

According to him, political strategy requires long-term planning, effective organization, and the ability to anticipate challenges before they arise.

He argued that opposition parties must focus on strengthening their structures and coordinating their activities if they intend to convince Nigerians that they are prepared to govern.

The political activist also urged opposition figures to work together despite their differences, saying that unity would be essential in presenting a credible alternative to the ruling party. He added that political alliances should be guided by shared objectives rather than personal interests.

Shield concluded by expressing the view that the coming months would be crucial for the opposition, noting that decisions taken before the official campaign period could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 general election.
