Those Who we have recruited to protect us and safeguard us have become our enemies -UNIOSUN VC.

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, has strongly condemned the reported invasion of the institution's hostels by military personnel, describing the incident as disturbing and completely unacceptable.

According to Vanguard Newspapers, Professor Adebooye expressed deep concern over the conduct of the soldiers, stressing that security personnel who are entrusted with protecting citizens should never become a source of fear or intimidation.

He said it was alarming that individuals recruited to safeguard lives and property had instead turned into threats to the very people they were expected to protect.

The Vice-Chancellor stated, “Those who we have recruited to protect us and safeguard us have become our enemies and threats. This is not acceptable in our university, Osun, or any nation.”

He further disclosed that five soldiers allegedly involved in the incident have already been arrested, a development he described as an important step toward ensuring accountability.

He emphasized that acts of misconduct by security operatives must not be tolerated and called for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

Professor Adebooye also reaffirmed the university's commitment to maintaining a safe and peaceful learning environment for students and staff. He urged the relevant authorities to take decisive action against anyone found culpable to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to Vanguard Newspapers, the Vice-Chancellor maintained that educational institutions should remain secure spaces where students can pursue their studies without fear of harassment or intimidation from those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the public.
