Paul Kinanee, the older sibling of Gospel Kinanee, has shared the touching moment he met his brother again after Gospel was found in a prison nearly 18 years after he went missing, calling the meeting heart-wrenching.

Paul discussed the event in a talk on Arise News on Thursday, 2 July 2026, following the news that Gospel had reportedly been imprisoned for many years without any active case file. The public became aware of this situation after a lawyer is said to have located and recognized him during a visit to the prison.

Reflecting on their reunion, Paul mentioned that the lengthy time in detention had seriously affected his brother's physical and emotional well-being.

“When I arrived, I saw my brother sitting outside. If you looked at him, he no longer seemed like a human being. He began to weep.”

Paul noted that this emotional encounter was the first occasion the family had seen Gospel since his disappearance nearly twenty years ago. He explained that the family had spent years searching for him without any luck and had slowly started to lose hope of ever finding him safe.

This discovery has raised new worries about extended detention and how justice is managed, particularly in situations where inmates are reportedly held without the appropriate documentation or ongoing legal processes.

Advocates for human rights have consistently demanded changes to avoid illegal or long-term detention, urging officials to routinely check inmate files and to ensure that each detainee's situation is handled according to legal standards.
