Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has come to the defense of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country's security challenges, arguing that the current administration is being unfairly blamed for problems that originated years before it assumed office. WATCH FULL VIDEO.

Fayose made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed insecurity, governance, and the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections. 

The outspoken politician maintained that while insecurity remains a serious concern for Nigerians, the issue should be viewed within its historical context rather than being attributed solely to the current government.

According to Fayose, many of the security challenges confronting the country today escalated during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and have continued to affect the nation despite efforts by the current government to address them.

The former governor argued that President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment in tackling insecurity since taking office and has made significant efforts to strengthen security operations across the country. 

While acknowledging that the situation remains difficult, Fayose insisted that the president should be credited for attempting to confront a problem that had already become deeply rooted before his administration began.

He further suggested that insecurity is increasingly being used as a political weapon against the president as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify. 

According to him, some political actors are exploiting security concerns to weaken public confidence in the administration and advance their own political interests.
