Speaking during an interview on Nevon HQ on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Oludare said his decision followed months of dissatisfaction with developments within the ruling party, particularly the conduct of the APC governorship primary in Ondo State.
He alleged that the exercise fell short of the standards expected of a transparent and credible electoral process.
According to Oludare, he repeatedly voiced his concerns to the party's leadership before deciding to leave but claimed that his observations received little attention.
During the interview, Oludare also expressed concern about what he believes is an increasing concentration of political power.
He warned against any move that could diminish political competition, saying a healthy democracy depends on strong institutions, credible elections, and the ability of different political parties to compete freely.
"I am resigning from APC because we are turning Nigeria into China, into a one-party state," he said, adding that he had raised similar concerns while he was still a member of the party.
Oludare maintained that political parties must encourage transparency, accountability, and respect for differing opinions if they are to retain public confidence.
He said the controversy surrounding the Ondo State governorship primary ultimately reinforced his decision to leave the APC, expressing hope that Nigeria's democratic institutions would continue to uphold fairness, openness, and political inclusion.
