Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused Arise Television of misrepresenting his comments about the commissioning of projects in the Federal Capital Territory, insisting that his remarks were taken out of context.
In a video shared by AIT News, speaking during a project commissioning ceremony in the FCT, Akpabio said members of the All Progressives Congress should ignore the reports.
He pointed to the party's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who was present when he made the original statement, saying he could confirm what was said.
Akpabio explained that he was referring only to the FCT and not to Nigeria as a whole.
He said he had not seen a situation where a president and an FCT minister commissioned as many as 31 projects within a year. Akpabio also disclosed that he was informed that 19 more major projects are expected to be commissioned before election activities begin in January.
The Senate President urged Arise Television anchors to stop attributing statements to him that he did not make. He added that he has largely stopped watching television because, in his view, some reports do not accurately reflect what he says.
In his words, "You heard what Arise did this morning, you were there on that day, and they misrepresented what I said. I'm used to it, what I said was about FCT."
