The Worst Part Is That Nyesom Wike Is the One Bringing Fire to Opposition People– Henry Shield

Henry Shield has criticized Nigeria's opposition, saying it has failed to hold the government accountable and has become too weak to challenge those in power.

Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Shield argued that if the opposition were effective, President Bola Tinubu would have been forced to make difficult political decisions regarding key members of his administration, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

He also referred to the controversy surrounding reports of land allocations to Wike's children. According to Shield, access rules at the AGIS area in Abuja changed after the issue became public, with people no longer allowed to enter with their mobile phones. 

He questioned the reason for the restriction, arguing that people should not have anything to hide if no wrongdoing had occurred.

Shield maintained that the opposition had done little to investigate or challenge the allegations, describing its response as ineffective.

He further claimed that the most troubling aspect of the situation was that Wike was creating divisions within opposition parties while they remained unable to respond. 

According to him, despite ongoing complaints about developments in the Federal Capital Territory, opposition politicians have failed to provide strong resistance or demand accountability.

Shield concluded that many civil servants in the FCT were unhappy with the current situation but believed the opposition had not done enough to address their concerns.

In his words, "The worst part is that Wike is the one bringing fire to opposition people. Even when rubbish is going on in the FCT."
