Presidency Exposes Fake DG Who Ran 34 Bank Accounts, Met US Envoys With Forged Letters

The Presidency has exposed the full extent of a sophisticated scam orchestrated by Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew, a man who paraded himself as Director-General of a fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council using forged documents bearing the signature of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper, the Presidency, in a statement on Wednesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, revealed that Adeyemi operated 34 bank accounts, with nine opened in the names of his fake agencies. 

He also fraudulently opened a Central Bank of Nigeria account by misleading the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. Fortunately, no government funds were transferred into the account before the scam was uncovered.

The statement disclosed that Adeyemi went as far as meeting with foreign ambassadors at the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro on October 10, 2025, without recourse to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

He also requested a note verbal from the Ministry to facilitate US visas for his staff, a move that raised red flags within diplomatic circles.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Ambassador Anderson Madubuike, wrote to the National Security Adviser and the Chief of Staff on October 15, 2025, seeking clarification on Adeyemi's status, noting that his actions contravened global diplomatic practices.

The investigation, which involved the Department of State Services and the Police, revealed that Adeyemi forged appointment letters bearing falsified signatures, reference numbers, and seals. 

He operated from an office at the Federal Secretariat Complex Phase III, 2nd Floor, where he hosted meetings with both foreigners and Nigerians.

The Chief of Staff first alerted security agencies on October 17, 2025, following complaints from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council about another agency functioning at cross-purposes with it. 

Adeyemi was arrested on October 27, 2025, at his Secretariat office. The Police filed an eight-count charge against him and two accomplices at the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 27, 2025. He is due in court on July 27.

The Presidency warned politicians weaponising Adeyemi's claims against Gbajabiamila to await the court's judgment, noting that comments made are sub judice.
